TODAY'S HISTORY
On this day in 1883, the Metropolitan Opera House opened on 39^th St. and Broadway in New York City with a performance of Gounod's Faust.  The Metropolitan Opera moved to its home at Lincoln Center in 1966 and the old Opera House was demolished.
