Morning Brief: July 24
The New York Wage Board recently approved Governor Cuomo’s plan to raise the minimum wage for fast food workers in New York City to $15 an hour by 2018. But according to The Salt Lake Tribune, many fast food workers oppose this plan. They say it is unfair to not raise the minimum wage for other low-wage industries. These restaurant workers are considering a lawsuit against Cuomo. They would like to know if the raise in minimum wage was arbitrarily applied to a single industry. Cuomo says the plan affects fast food workers because many work for companies that make billions of dollars.
