It's obvious that Kurt Vile is an artist who operates on his own timetable and schedule when it comes to recording. Drawing inspiration at all times and from all directions, Vile's new album, b'lieve i'm goin' down..., is open, airy and somewhat existential with questions about life throughout the record.

The album's excellent opener "Pretty Pimpin'" begins with the line: "I woke up this morning, didn't recognize the man in the mirror." It's a Talking Heads-esque lyric that sets the tone for the record. It's also one of the great new songs Kurt did live in a recent visit to Studio A. We talked all about the album, his recording process and family life and the influence Tinariwen had on b'lieve i'm goin' down....
