The James Hunter Six at WFUV

British soul man James Hunter and his bandmates recently made a return visit to WFUV to spread the word about their new album, Hold On!, the second consecutive Hunter album credited to the James Hunter Six.

It's also the second consecutive album produced by Bosco Mann (aka Gabriel Roth). Roth, who is a co-founder of Daptone Records and a member of the Dap-Kings, is a proponent of analogue recording and he mixed the new album in mono.

Making the connection between the two parties even tighter is the fact that Hold On! is the James Hunter Six's first album for the Daptone label. It’s a marriage made in retro-soul heaven, as I discovered in this FUV Live session.
