Hugh Masekela - Words and Music - 2007

Update: Hugh Masekala passed away on January 23, 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa at the age of 78. It was an honor to have had Hugh and his band visit WFUV for this interview and performance.

Hugh Masekela helped bring the music of South Africa to the world with his 1968 hit "Grazing in the Grass," but he's equally passionate about spreading stories of struggle, hope, and humanity just as far. Steady touring is part of the process, and with the new album Live at The Market Theatre in hand, FUV's Studio A was fortunately one stop on Masekela's way.
