Hear an FUV Live session with Holly George Warren tonight at 9.

Alex Chilton was one of rock's great, enigmatic characters. He was singing on hit singles for the Box Tops while still a teenager. He was a driving force behind Big Star, one of the leading purveyors of the power-pop genre. He became one of forefathers of both the indie rock movement and the lo-fi sound. He was also a master of deconstructing all that he had accomplished. Then, suddenly, at the age of 59, he was gone.

Alex Chilton's life has been brilliantly chronicled by renowned author, journalist and music historian Holly George-Warren in the new book A Man Called Destruction: The Life And Music Of Alex Chilton, From Box Tops To Big Star To Backdoor Man. Holly has written and edited many fine books on rock and country music, and has overseen the publication of numerous reference guides for Rolling Stone magazine. As a fan of Big Star and a great admirer of the life and music of Alex Chilton, it was a thrill to get to meet Holly and talk to her about her latest book.
