Going (to the) Country
This week our Album ReCue takes a look back at Tina Turner's solo debut Tina Turns the Country On! There she crossed over from gritty R&B to covers of country songs by Dolly Parton and Hank Snow. So this morning we're asking for other artists from outside the genre who've gone country. That includes artists who've added some twang to their own repertoire and also those who've covered songs originally recorded by country artists. We reckon you can hear a set of your requests after 9am.
Here's what we played:
Cassandra Wilson "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"
The Rolling Stones "Dead Flowers"
Elvis Costello "Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down"
The Byrds "You Ain't Going Nowhere"
Led Zeppelin "Hot Dog"
