Gary Clark Jr. - FUV Live - 2013
Twenty-nine year old Gary Clark Jr., often heralded as “the bluesman of his generation” by numerous critics, fellow musicians and devoted fans, stopped by WFUV recently just prior to a sold-out show at New York’s famed Apollo Theatre. As exciting as it to hear Gary and his amazing band in a full concert setting, it was a special treat to experience it as an audience of one in our intimate Studio A.
Gary and his band performed 3 songs from his full length debut album, Blak and Blu during this session. I also talked with him about a variety of subjects including his 2012 performance at the White House, the events that inspired his signature song “Bright Lights", and which musical icon he’d still like to work with. For someone who has played with everyone from Clapton to the Stones, you might be surprised to hear his answer. (Hint – think Purple and Minneapolis!)
