Garland Jeffreys - FUV Live - 2013
Singer-songwriter Garland Jeffreys has been in the NYC music scene since the '70s. His first big hit was with the 1973 single "Wild In the Streets," which has since been covered by various artists. Garland is an artist’s artist — he’s played with John Cale, Bruce Springsteen and the late Levon Helm. Bob Marley even said that he was the only American who could really sing reggae. While his musical style is infused with reggae, it’s not limited to that. You’ll also find rock, blues and soul in the mix.
After releasing about 10 records and touring throughout the world, Garland decided to take a break to focus on raising his daughter. Now that she’s almost ready for college, Garland is ready to get back on stage. His new album, Truth Serum, is out today and he’ll be performing at Rockwood Music Hall on the 23rd of the month. I recently hosted this very youthful 70-year-old in Studio A, where he shared some of his new songs and talked about his experience in the music business.
