Colonial-esque. Classy. Fancier. Modern. Lowercase.

That’s how Fordham University students described the school’s new logo in one word. The university has defended the rebrand, despite mixed reviews. Students on campus shared their opinions with WFUV.

“Honestly, don’t really mind it,” said incoming freshman Lucy Rios. “I guess I don’t really have an attachment to the old ones, so I don’t feel any type of way, but I actually don’t mind the new one at all.”

Sophomore Jack Whitbourn feels similarly, but doesn’t think the rebrand is entirely necessary.

“I like it. I do mess with it,” he said. “But I think that some things didn’t need to be changed.”

Junior Kate Cox is unhappy about the change. “It’s not my favorite, I’m not gonna lie,” she said. “I like that the university and athletics are coming together to have the same color palette and the logo. However, the F with the ram head’s my favorite logo.”

Some say it's not the addition of the new logo that people don’t like, but the elimination of the old logo.

“It’s not as bad as people are making it out to be,” said senior Danielle. “I think people are just attached to the old logo.”

A student-created petition to restore the previous logo has received nearly 1,800 signatures. But the university says they still plan to incorporate the new logo into branding over the next several months.
