City Harvest Delivers 500 Millionth Pounds of Food
Organization celebrates its success in helping New York's hungry with over 30 years of food delivery
City Harvest is an organization that collects and distributes food to pantries throughout New York. Tuesday it celebrated its 500 millionth pound delivery of food.
Vice President Matthew Reich says the group feeds over 1.4 million people each year. And he says that number keeps growing.
"Over the past 33 years we've gotten much more efficient in delivering food to hungry New Yorkers, but it takes a lot of people to help feed New York CIty's hungry."
Reich says Harvest City started out delivering just over a million pounds of food a year. Now he says that number's soared to over 50 million. Reich says the South Bronx and parts of Brooklyn are in the greatest need of help. But he says City Harvest's working to fight hunger across the five boroughs.
