Turning 80 in November, Chris Smither's singing and fingerpicking guitar playing have never sounded better. He returned to Studio A for a session addressing his new album, All About the Bones, which he recorded with his longtime producer Dave "Goody" Goodrch and a small group in the studio in Massachusetts.

He performed two songs in Studio A (one of which was a cover of Eliza Gilkyson's "Calm Before the Storm") and acknowledged his debt to Lightnin' Hopkins, the legacy of his New Orleans upbringing, the intimacy he creates with an audience, and, despite the fatalistic feel of some of the songs, his determination to keep moving on.

It's always a treat to share the warmth and easygoing manner of this music master.

[Recorded: 6/5/24; Engineered and produced by Jeremy Rainer.]
