The Cactus Blossoms with Darren Devivo at WFUV

The Cactus Blossoms are brothers Jack Torrey and Page Burkum, from St. Paul, Minnesota. They are young artists who create a sound that recalls the vintage country and early rock and roll of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Their songs are sweetened with vocal harmonies that are reminiscent of the time-honored traditions of The Everly Brothers.

Despite all of this, The Cactus Blossoms aren’t an oldies act. Most of their songs are original compositions that celebrate and pay homage to Americana traditions, rather than simply copying them.

The brothers honed their craft during a residency at the Turf Club in St. Paul. Now, they introduce themselves with their first nationally distributed album, You’re Dreaming, produced by fellow revivalist JD McPherson.

Torrey and Burkum were kind enough to stop by WFUV recently to perform some of the songs and chat with me about all things Cactus Blossoms.
