Underneath the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is the BQ Flea, a market of local vendors selling vintage clothes, antique jewelry, home decor, and more. The market opened in 2024, and has been working with local vendors and small businesses since.
Nate Borgman is the BQ Flea's manager. He said that vendors take pride in what they’re selling, explaining that “it's their hobby and their passion, so they're trying to give that to people. ”
One of the vendors is Keith Shaw who runs My Vintage Brain, featuring glassware and collectables from the '50s, '60s and '70s. Shaw said that he sells his items because he wants to bring vintage to the present.
“I just enjoy saving the past to pass on to the future," he said, "and these younger kids coming in and buying it to keep it going."
Summer is prime BQ Flea time; the market is open every Sunday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. through October, at 202 Meeker Avenue at the intersection of Skillman and Union Ave.
