Brian Fallon has been making music with the New Jersey-based band The Gaslight Anthem for 20 years.
He’s also recorded several well-crafted solo albums, with his latest, Not Bad for New Jersey, released under the name Brian Fallon and The Painkillers.
Fallon recently made the trip from Jersey up to our Bronx studios to play a couple of the new songs (as well as a Gaslight favorite). In our conversation, we chatted a lot about the new album, his friendship and bond with producer Butch Walker, and the thread of Jersey pride that runs through the album.
We also touched on other subjects, like some of his favorite newer artists, the Brian Adams connection to one of the songs on the new album, and his perspective on staying grounded as both a person and a performer.
For this solo performance, Fallon performed “Better Before,” the album’s title track, and a solo version of The Gaslight Anthem song “Here’s Looking at You, Kid.”
[Recorded: 6/2/26. Engineered by Jim O'Hara, Holden Buckley, Alessandro Badalamenti, and Stacy Tran. Produced by Meghan Suma. Videographers: Alena Godas, Olivia Iannaccone, Kellie McGuinness and Danny Cifelli.]
