Brad Lander is running to become the next Mayor of New York City. He’s gained visibility over the last two debates and he and Zohran Mamdani recently cross-endorsed each other.

Lander has voiced adamant support for immigrants, which has recently even put him in harm's way.

On June 17 he tried to escort an immigrant New Yorker out of his court hearing. But masked federal authorities forcefully separated him from the man and arrested Lander.

I talked with him before his arrest. So, we don’t get into it. But I still think the things we discussed take on an even greater importance in light of that event.

Notably, less than two weeks before the primary election day, The New York Times published an Op-Ed naming him as the best overall pick for mayor, according to 15 city leaders.

I hope you enjoy my conversation with Brad Lander.

This is the first installment of WFUV’s 2025 Mayoral Election interview series. The Democratic NYC mayoral primary is Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
