Amtrak Announces Upcoming Repairs to Penn Station

Amtrak has announced plans to improve Penn Station, but some railroad riders are not thrilled about what it will mean for their daily commutes.

Amtrak President and CEO Charles Moorman said work will begin next month to repair failing infrastructure. The work will shut down key tracks in Penn Station, affecting the Long Island Railroad, Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. Riders, like Brady from Long Beach, are not happy, because Amtrak plans to close tracks during busy weekdays. He's been taking the LIRR to the city for more than 30 years, and he said Penn Station has never been worse. He said the construction will inevitably lead to more delays for commuters, who already have to deal with them frequently.

"You know, they should have the system up and running. There should be no reason for these tracks to be down," Brady said.

Amtrak has not disclosed how many tracks will be shut down, or how disruptive it will be for commuters.
