A day to remember
Just had to say ‘hey’ from Newport and tell y’all that something magic happened here on Day One of the folk festival. Well, several somethings.
First off, John Prine invited Yim Yames to sit join him for two songs - and you never saw the two of them look happier. Yim even removed his sunglasses for the set. And actually smiled. (John Prine sat for a short interview backstage with Rita afterwards so stay tuned for that.)
Yim’s set will be blogged about elsewhere endlessly so suffice to say it appeared to be a religious experience for all involved.
Andrew Bird’s cover of Dylan’s “Oh Sister,” was a nice moment but Brandi Carlile’s cover of “Folsom Prison Blues,” was a foot-stompin’, hand-clapping crowd pleaser to beat all.
Oh, btw, 30 or so people danced in front of the NPR booth during Andrew Bird’s set. Go figure.
