Hollywood Composers to Join Teamsters?
According to today’s Los Angeles Times, Hollywood composers and lyricists are taking steps to unionize and join the Teamsters. Unlike most other trades in Hollywood, composers and lyricists do not have a union. Should they join the Teamsters, proposed changes include:
- Mandatory 15-minute break for every 12 bars of music composed
- Double-time pay for composing holiday music
- All union members get 14 holidays, 12 sick days and 8 days for writer's block
