Falcon Ridge, Pt. 2

Seeking shelter from the storm as Ellis Paul serenades us.

They should use “A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall” as the Falcon Ridge theme song. The folks who stopped by the FUV booth yesterday for a poncho were smart. Last night just after Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman did a great mainstage set, huge dark thunderclouds rolled in, and they had to shut everything down.

I was in the backstage tent when the heavens opened. In one corner Cliff Eberhardt was hanging out with Karen and Pete, while Ellis Paul was in another singing, “Who’ll Stop the Rain?” Janis Ian came over and asked if I had any FUV ponchos. I told her I just had two, which I gave her and her road manager.  A while lataer Cindy Bullens of The Refugees came and asked if I had any more, and I had to say that Janis had my last two.

After a couple of hours of waiting to see if the rain would stop enough for the music to resume, we finally gave up and left. As it turned out, Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul, did a set in the food tent for a couple hundred people. The Refugees were rescheduled for today, and the song swap with Janis, Cliff, Ellis, and Susan Werner was cancelled. a real shame, because there would’ve been great chemistry (and lots of laughs) among the four of them.

Susan did her mainstage set today, and it was brilliant (as always). Janis is going on later tonight, and Cliff and Ellis tomorrow, when I’m supposed to MC. Let’s hope the forecast for rain tomorrow doesn’t pan out. Off now to a workshop of the songs of Paul Simon, with Tracy Grammer, The Nields, Dan Navarro, and a bunch of others...
