SXSW Day 3: NPR Music concerts, My Morning Jacket

No one sounds like this band! No one! The My Morning Jacket set at Austin Music Hall was surely a high point of the fest. There was much anticipation in the room with many fans arriving hours early for a good spot among the couple of thousand filling the airport hangar like venue (w really really good margaritas!).

Much of the excitement centered around the bands new material. We were hearing these songs for the first time. And like the REM show last night there is something very special about hearing new songs for the first time in a live setting. For me it almost insures (at least with the good songs) that you’ll always remember the first time you heard them. For REM it was definately Mr Richards and for My Morning Jacket it was these 3 very soulful new songs that you’ll hear on the broadcast on the Whole Wide World.

It was one of those shows that I wish everyone I know could have seen with me. You too!
