TAS in Session: The Low Anthem
Providence's own folk warriors The Low Anthem dropped by Studio A for a very special live session with WFUV's Rita Houston during their ongoing summer tour which has included gigs at Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and the Newport Folk Festival. The band's members - Ben Knox Miller, Jeff Prystowksy and Jocie Adams - seemed thrilled and sweetly flummoxed with all of the praise and attention they've garnered since the release of their elegant and quietly subversive debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin.
During their invigorating live session, The Low Anthem shared handy tips on how to buy rare instruments on Ebay (since a WWI era portable pump organ is considered an antique, you're gonna get screwed on the cost by the seller) and much more. Other intriguing musical finds that The Low Anthem are currently loading onto tour buses and airplanes include, according to their MySpace site, "1 '73 Gibson J-50, 3/4 scrap metal drum kit, 2 clarinets, 1 German upright bass, 1 alto (E flat) horn, 1 Salvation Army electric guitar, crotales and enough harmonicas to summon a swarm of locusts"
No locusts appeared in Studio A, though we were grateful for the harmonicas. We love harmonicas. And we dug their crotales, aka antique cymbals. When we went crotales searching on Wiki, we learned that Stewart Copeland used them in the Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger" too.
