TAS in Session: Cotton Jones

It was a great day at the office when one of my favorite new bands came in to our Studio A,  Cotton Jones. I've become a bit obsessed with their album, Paranoid Cocoon. This is the type of album that you can have on repeat for hours, maybe even days. There are gorgeous harmonies and lush arrangements on the record. It's true that it's very melancholy, but some of the most beautiful music is.

Even though front man Michael Nau assured me that he is not about to jump off of any ledges, I still had to mention to him that the song, "Gotta Cheer Up" is not all that cheery. He acknowledged that, but did say that it was about the process of getting to that better place - where you are happier. You're not quite there, but you are on your way. I understand and appreciate that. These things take time.

To me, Paranoid Cocoon feels like that moment, suspended in time. It's right after it stops raining and the sun is on the horizon. It's sad and dreamy, but also hopeful.

And you really hear how authentic those feelings are when you hear them play live. I'm so glad I found out about them.
