Happy St. Patrick's Day with Black 47!

Black 47, "Funky Ceili"

Happy St. Patrick's Day! A holiday dedicated to celebrating Saint Patrick, one of the patron saints of Ireland. Did you know the very first St. Patrick's Day parade was held in Boston back in 1761? New York's first parade was one year later in 1762. Now there are hundreds of parades throughout the country every year, giving folks all across the USofA a reason to partake in drunken debauchery without guilt. We're kidding of course. We all know that the history and tradition of St. Patrick and Ireland is of the utmost importance for most people on this day. Just don't tell that to the obnoxious drunks on the LIRR tonight. Anyway....

Black 47 is one of the coolest Irish bands of all-time. And they certainly represent a significant portion of the New York population. Led by Larry Kirwan, the expatriate writer and musician from Wexford, the band has been an integral part of the NYC music scene for almost twenty years. Known for their revelrous live shows and political lyrics, Black 47 prove you can bring intelligence to the stage without sacrificing a great time.

Recently, The Alternate Side took a field trip to Connollys in midtown to film a Black 47 show. Forgive us if the camera is a bit wobbly, as we were several pints of Guinness deep.

Black 47 is playing BB Kings this evening if you're looking for some St. Patrick's Day fun!
