Sample Support Letter for WFUV

Some folks have asked us if there is a way they could help support WFUV in the face of the loss of federal funding, besides contributing to the station themselves. If you'd like to send a message to your friends, feel free to copy and paste the letter below, and add anything you'd like about what FUV means to you. Thank you!

Hey [Friend's Name],

I’m reaching out because I know how much you care about music — and about the kind of community that public radio creates. WFUV has always felt like more than just a radio station. It’s a vital resource in New York City for discovery, with real voices making real connections, and for music that isn’t shaped by ads, algorithms, or corporate playlists.

I support WFUV because I believe it matters. Right now, they’ve lost half a million dollars in annual federal funding — money that helps with operating costs and music licensing especially. But they’re not giving up, and as a supporting member of the station, neither am I!

Public radio like WFUV needs more member support. Being just a listener is no longer enough. WFUV is one of the last places where music is curated by actual people, where independent artists get a platform to reach hundreds of thousands, and where the focus is on substance — not selling something. Supporting WFUV means standing up for thoughtful, commercial-free media that puts listeners and artists first. It means making sure this kind of space still exists — for all of us.

If you believe in that, I hope you'll become a member and protect it. Now is the time to act. Please, join me and make your membership gift at wfuv.org/donate.

Let’s make sure WFUV stays strong — for the music, the artists, and all of us who count on it every day.

Thanks,
(Your Name)
