You Should Know Their Names - Elizabeth Jennings

Do you know the name Elizabeth Jennings? There are a few names from the civil rights movement that everyone’s familiar with: Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks. All of them fought to change the status quo of race in the mid-20th century, but their efforts might not have been as successful if not for the work of a woman a hundred years before.

Her name was Elizabeth Jennings. After getting herself involved in a court case that made her the Rosa Parks of the 1800s, Elizabeth Jennings dedicated herself to helping her community through teaching. As a Black woman, she uplifted the Black community and Black children in any and every way she could. She was respected by her students, civil rights activists of the time, and some of the most famous feminists.
