Yankee Stadium to Shake off Dust of Winter with Soccer

Major League Soccer comes to the Bronx March 15
New York City Football Club has its first game ever in just a couple months - March 15th at Yankee Stadium. That is a couple weeks before the Yankees return to the Bronx. But Dr. Cary Goodman of the 161st Street Business Improvement District, says he does not think the neighbors will mind starting the sporting season early.

"We're a little bit like a resort town up here around the stadium. When the season's on, when baseball's on… there's a sort of electricity in the air, and everybody's excited,” he said. “and there's a tremendous energy about the community."

Goodman says the area has been welcoming sports fans since the original Yankee Stadium opened 90 years ago. He expects a nice boost to local businesses as soccer fans shop and hit the bars after games.

*Note: the audio version of this story mistakenly stated the team’s home opener at March 17th.
