At a recent book release event in Manhattan, author Michael Garber spotlighted the overlooked contributions of women in early American popular music. His new book, Songs She Wrote: Forty Hits by Pioneering Women of Popular Music, highlights over 400 women songwriters from the Tin Pan Alley era, whose work was long ignored by the male-dominated music industry. WFUV’s Caitlin Thomas reports on the effort to bring these trailblazing artists the recognition they’ve long deserved.
