Westchester County is working to make sure absentee fathers are pulling their weight toward supporting their children.

County Executive Rob Astorino unveiled the R.E.A.L Parenting Program today.  R.E.A.L Stands for Responsible, Employed, Active, and Loving.  The goal is to help absentee fathers, whose children are being raised by only their mothers, to get involved both financially and emotionally in their children's lives.  Astorino believes the plan will help both the fathers as well as the families.

"This is getting people back on their feet," said Astorino, "getting them back involved in the lives of their kids, helping out the moms who are raising these kids, and getting them back into society."

The REAL Plan offers a reduction in social service payments for fathers who complete classes on parenting, as well as those who find a job.
