Ted Cruz Makes a Campaign Stop in the Bronx

Republican Senator Ted Cruz made his first campaign stop in the New York City area at a restaurant in the Bronx Wednesday.

Cruz's visit grabbed the attention of local residents, like Jessica Mojica. She's voting for Cruz and says she's just glad to see a Republican come to her neighborhood.

"We need some Republicans out here," Mojica said. "We hear a lot about Bernie Sanders. He was in Mott Haven. Hillary came by. She was in Brooklyn. The Republican's presence is definitely needed here."

But Destiny Domeneck wasn't so sure. She came to protest against Cruz. She says she was upset when Cruz said back in 2014 that people from Manhattan felt threatened by people from the Bronx.

"This community is very unified, very strong, very accepting, and it was really offensive to hear what he had to say about the Bronx," Domeneck said. "I feel like that doesn't embody what it means to be someone who lives here."

The date of the New York primary is Tuesday April 19.
