Protesters Converge on Trump Tower After DACA Decision

As the Trump Administration announced its position on DACA on Tuesday, hundreds of protesters converged on Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue. They sang "aqui estamos, y no nos vamos," or "here we are and we will not go."

They gathered as the Trump Administration annouced it will phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, over the next six months. New Yorker Joran Rodriguez is a DACA recipient, and has been living in the United States for about twenty-six years. His mother brought him across the Mexican border when he was three years.

"I think this is just coming from the current administration and the lack of compassion they have and the lack of knowledge they have about communities, struggling communities at that, especially the Hispanic community," said Rodriguez.

DACA protects people who were brought to the United States as children from deportation, and grants them temporary work or study visas. The program currently extends to over 800,000 people.
