Proposed Bill Could Cap Number of Ubers
A bill proposed in New York City Council could limit the number of Ubers and Lyfts in New York City.
The bill could put a yearlong pause on licensing for new ride-hailing vehicles.
In the past three years nearly 40,000 additional vehicles run by apps like Uber have hit the streets bringing the number up to roughly 100,000.
Some advocates are concerned the cap could effect under-served neighborhoods where residents rely on ride-sharing services to reach public transit. Uber has launched a counter campaign saying prices will get higher and wait times longer if the bill passes.
City Council is expected to vote as early as next week.
