NYC Libraries Want More Money

New York City's three library systems are calling for more money. They're talking about cutting back on hours the facilities are open, because they have to keep up with the costs of labor and operation. The libraries have asked for an additional $35 million dollars in funding. But instead, Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed to cut about $11 million dollars in next year's budget. Advocates are warning libraries won't open on weekends and programs will be canceled if money isn't found. Libraries have recorded more than a million people have showed up to free programs for reading lessons. City Council Speaker Corey Johnson read with more than 50 children Wednesday to support the push called #InvestinLibraries.
