NYC Coat Drive Still Short of its Goal

New York Cares only has about 20,000 coats so far.

New York Cares' coat drive ends on the 31st. And the city's largest volunteer organization said they're still around 80,000 coats short of their goal.

Wes Moe is the senior projects manager at New York Cares, and he said there is a particular need for large adult men's and children's coats. He said the relatively warm weather so far may have impacted donations. But Moe said people need to think beyond December.

"If it's not cold today, it's going to be freezing in January and it's going to be freezing in February. And that's really when folks really need the coats," Moe said.

Moe said there are a number of places people can donate, like at their local precincts or at Grand Central or Penn Station. He said they're also using a shipping app, called Shyp, that allows users to arrange coat pickups at their home for free.
