NY Gov. Cuomo announces $36 mil in improvements for Jones Beach

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called it, "the rebirth of Jones Beach." He's referring to more than $36 million in renovations to Long Island's Jones Beach State Park, including new locally sourced 'Taste NY' food vendors, and improvements to the West Bathhouse and East and Central Malls. Cuomo made the announcement Thursday after touring Jones Beach restoration projects.

The Taste NY Cafe is in the West Bathhouse, and offers New York State food and craft beverages from more than 30 different food and beverage producers across the state.

"Taste NY producers offer some of the finest goods in the state and the addition of a Taste NY Cafe to the West Bathhouse is a great way to connect those companies to countless new buyers," said Richard Ball, Comissioner of New York State's Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Governor Cuomo also announced a new prototype mobile app that's intended to address one of his Jones Beach pet peeves--the struggle to find parking.

"When you're coming down the highway, you can look at an app on your phone and it'll tell you just what parking lots are filled, what parking lots are empty, and the percentage so you'll know exactly where to go," Cuomo said.

The latest improvements are part of Cuomo's $65 million commitment to restore the historic grandeur of Jones Beach State Park, attract new visitors, and create new recreational facilities.
