New York's MTA to be Honored with a Stewardship Award

The MTA is receiving a special award for taking care of some of New York’s historic properties.

The New York Landmark’s Conservancy is awarding the agency a Stewardship award at the end of month during their annual Preservation Oscars ceremony.

Peg Breen is the Conservancy’s President. She says the MTA has helped to preserve over 80 subway stations and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Despite all their budget problems and all the woes recently with hurricane sandy they have really gone out of their way to try to care for these stations, bring them back to their glory and give riders a much more pleasant experience,” Breen said.

The Preservations Oscars ceremony will take place on April 29^th at Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall.
