WFUV’s Andrew Massie visits the Museum of the City of New York’s Songs of New York exhibit, which explores 100 years of the city’s musical history. Spanning from 1920 to 2020, the exhibit highlights 130 songs tied to different boroughs, from the Bronx’s hip-hop roots to Brooklyn’s jazz legacy. Visitors interact with illuminated maps that play music based on where they step, while lyrics and archival images bring the songs to life. Originally launched for the museum’s centennial, the exhibit has returned by popular demand, offering a unique way to experience how music shapes the city’s identity.
