Morning Brief: March 29
New, controversial legislation in North Carolina has blocked local governments from passing anti-discrimination measures, and mandates that transgender people must use only those bathrooms that correspond with the gender they were assigned at birth. That law generated outrage among LBGTQ groups in North Carolina, and now that outrage is radiating at far as New York. Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo have both responded strongly to the bill, banning all nonessential, publicly funded travel to North Carolina. The bans will stand until the legislation in question is repealed.
