Morning Brief: July 21

New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio wants to stop the growth of Uber drivers. The City Council will soon vote on a proposal that would place a cap on Uber’s growth. The Mayor’s administration says vehicles, such as Uber, are responsible for New York City’s traffic congestion. But according to the New York Times, the taxi industry, which is one of the Mayor’s campaign contributors, has wanted the Mayor to crack down on Uber for a while. Many have considered this to become a political issue. On Tuesday, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick responded to the situation. He tweeted to the Mayor, “Uber pays for more insurance, pays more in taxes, and uber drivers make more per hour.”
