LI Official Prepares For Hurricane Season

The National Weather Service is predicting above average threats for hurricanes this season.

County Executive Ed Mangano said Nassau County's taking lessons after Superstorm Sandy. They've outlined evacuation routes that can be found on what he's calling the Nassau Now app. He also suggests residents visit the county web site to better prepare before a storm hits. Mangano said residents should assemble emergency go kits with supplies like prescriptions, batteries, and important documents, but he said the kits shouldn't be limited to just humans.

"If you have a pet, we want you to be able to take your pet and the proper supplies with you," Mangano said. "And of course we work very hard here in our county, and we will have a pet shelter as well."

Mangano's final message to residents of Nassau County is to be prepared, and not scared.

Hurricane season runs till November.
