Lawmaker Wants More Netting For City Baseball Stadiums

It's the Yankees home opener today, and if you're in the stands for the game, you're actually more at risk of being hit by a ball than the players on the field. City Councilman Rafael Espinal wants both Citi Field and Yankee Stadium to construct netting over certain parts of their stands to protect their fans. "If not," Espinal says, "I'll have to do my job as legislator and pass this bill to make sure New Yorkers feel safe and are safe when they go to the games." Last season, 1750 people were injured by foul balls. Espinal says the nets won't radically impact how fans watch the game. He plans to introduce his bill in early May.
