  • John Vanderslice: TAS In Session

San Francisco's incomparable musician and producer John Vanderslice might have one of the keenest ears in indie rock. He also happens to have a new album of his own, White Wilderness, an innovative collaboration with conductor Minna Choi's Magik*Magik Orchestra out now on Dead Oceans. Listen to a very special TAS session with Vanderslice tomorrow, July 8 at 11 a.m., on The Alternate Side on WNYE 91.5 and via the TAS stream. Vanderslice has juggled his own solo career with outside projects as a producer (The Mountain Goats) and recording studio owner (Tiny Telephone). He also championed Sufjan Stevens and St. Vincent early in their careers. He launches a late summer  tour on August 13 at the Doe Bay Music Festival on Orcas Island, Washington. On selected dates Vanderslice has been playing with the Magik*Magik Orchestra's full 30-piece ensemble and choir. The always interesting Vanderslice offered a more stripped-down set when he dropped by Studio A not long ago, playing songs like "Overcoat" and "Convict Lake" and he also spoke to The Alternate Side's Alisa Ali about the vast difference between White Wilderness and his previous work. Listen: John Vanderslice, live in Studio A
