The Jamaica Bay Festival was a day of activities this month that celebrated the Jamaica Bay as well as raising awareness for climate change. Jamaica Bay, located in Brooklyn and Queens, is in major danger because of rising sea levels. The success of the bay is tied directly to the success of New York City. Without the bay, the city would be subject to more extreme flooding, habitat loss, heightened heat island effect and more. That's why events like the Jamaica Bay Festival are so crucial to spreading information about the bay’s importance and conservation.
