Irish-American Baseball Hall of Fame Inducts 2018 Honorees
Foley's New York in Midtown Manhattan appears like a standard Irish pub from the street, but beyond its doors lies a different world. Inside, the bar is lined floor to ceiling with baseball memorabilia, including roughly 3,500 signed baseballs.
Irish bar-owner Shaun Clancy says Foley’s is an "Irish Bar with a Baseball Attitude.”
Besides being a well-known sports bar and baseball-fan mecca, Foley's doubles as the Irish-American Baseball Hall of Fame.
They started inducting members in 2008, honoring significant characters of the baseball world of Irish heritage, including journalists, owners, and players.
One of 2018’s inductees is writer Jack O'Connell, who besides covering New York baseball for over 40 years, currently serves as the Baseball Writer’s Association of America’s secretary-treasurer. One of his most noteworthy tasks? O’Connell is responsible for making “The Call” to new inductees of the National Baseball Hall of Fame informing them of the news.
Other 2018 inductees include Adam Dunn, Eric Byrnes, Chub Feeney, Katy Feeney, and Tom Whaley.
