Historic New Jersey Court Gets a Makeover
East Orange Plans to 'Make Over' Elmwood Park Court
A historical basketball court in northern New Jersey is getting an upgrade.
Officials in East Orange announced plans today to renovate the court at Elmwood Park. East Orange City Spokesman Darryl Jeffries said the goal is to rejuvenate the historical court.
"It will be a comprehensive approach to rekindling a grand and glorious basketball tradition as well as to foster very wholesome fitness related activity," said Jeffries.
In the 1960's and 70's, NBA stars including Julius "Dr.J." Erving and Earl "The Pearl" Monroe dribbled, passed, and scored at the site. Darryl Jeffries said Elmwood Park was the place for hoops back in the day.
"[Elmwood Park was] a mecca, an oasis, an epicenter for world-class basketball," said Jeffries.
The renovation is scheduled to be completed on July 2nd.
