Ground Broken for NYC's Second Tallest Skyscraper

One World Trade Center will soon have some new company up in the clouds.

After three long years of discussion and planning, public officials and developers stood side by side as they broke ground for New York's second tallest skyscraper. The 1,401 foot building will be located at One Vanderbilt Street. This means it will neighbor Grand Central Terminal in between 42nd and 43rd streets. And even though the tower is expected to be massive, it is supposed to preserve the beautiful architecture of Grand Central.

One Vanderbilt will not only give a little bit of "eye-candy" to the skyline, but it will provide $220 million in improvements for Grand Central. Council Member Dan Garodnick says it will "allow trains to move more quickly through Grand Central, and as a result people will be able to get home faster to their kids, they'll be get to their job interviews, they'll be able to live without the same hassle we experience every day."

Mayor Bill de Blasio says this renovation will not only improve Grand Central, but the entire Midtown East area. Construction is set to be finished in 2021.
