Greek Independence Day: A History of Pride and Struggle

Greeks from all over the world poured into New York City to march along Manhattan’s 5th Ave this weekend in celebration of 200 years of freedom. It was the first Greek Independence Day Parade in 2 years after being canceled by the pandemic. The parade is a testimony to a long history of struggle as well as a rich cultural heritage. WFUV’s Nicoleta Papavasilakis explores this history, starting with her visit to the parade. She also talks with author and publisher Anna Prokos about her children's book The Lucky Day and how it educates the next generation on the legacy of Greek Indepedence.
