Gov. Cuomo Hopes Flatiron Institute Can Solve Climate Change Problems

The Flatiron Institute in Manhattan celebrated its dedication ceremony Wednesday. It's a scientific institution dedicated to enhancing science through better data analysis and modeling. At the event, Governor Cuomo says the work at Flatiron will lead to a better understanding of how climate change affects everyone.

"We have challenges that the environment is bringing us with extreme weather, which is now undeniable," Cuomo said. "You can argue about the cause but you can't argue about the effect."

Cuomo pointed to storms affecting New York state and Hurricane Harvey as examples of extreme weather events.

"It's a global phenomenon," Cuomo said.

The dedication occurs on the same day that Category Five Hurricane Irma reaches land in the Carribbean.
