Det. Familia honored in the Bronx

New York City Officials and family honored Detective Miosotis Familia one year after she was killed.

Ryer Avenue in front of the Bronx's 46th Precinct is now renamed for Familia. She was fatally shot just a couple of blocks away while on duty in a mobile command unit.

Her daughter Genesis spoke about her mothe's commitment to her family and community in the ceremony Thursday.

Police say that she was killed for simply wearing the uniform. Before joining the force, Familia served the city as a nurse. Mayor Bill de blasio says her memory will be honored and she won't beforgotten.

To close out the ceremony God Bless America was sung, while many of the officers and attendees sang along.
