De Blasio Makes One Last Push to Ban Horse Carriages

Mayor Bill De Blasio is making one last effort to ban horse-drawn carriages from New York City. He says he wants to introduce electric carriages in Central Park to maintain the tourism industry.

Labor union leaders say DeBlasio is using the issue to further his political agenda.Tony Utano is president of the Transport Workers Union. Reports quote him as saying De Blasio doesn’t care about horses, carriage drivers, or blue-collar stable workers, only campaign money.

Mayor-Elect Eric Adams says he disagrees with DeBlasio on the horse carriages but is open to discussing the issue when he takes office.

City officials say they want to introduce legislation on this by the final City Council meeting of the year December 16.
